Packing less is surprisingly liberating

Start by making a list of places you will be going and things you will be doing. This will get you focused on what you will need.
  • Pack tran-seasonal garments that layer comfortably.
  • Everything needs to be interchangeable so keep styles simple.
  • It is also easier if you keep to similar fabrics.
  • The quality of the fabric is very important. I have tested my Merino on many trips and have never been disappointed.
  • Limit colours to black, white and other dark or light neutrals. These will all mix easily.
  • Use accessories to add colour and set an outfit apart – it’s far easier and fun.
  • Experiment with your accessories to get the different looks you want. Scarfs are amazingly versatile - e.g. this video shows how to transform a scarf into a hand bag.
  • When it comes to jewellery the limit is three pieces, anymore and it’s overdone.
  • Explore markets and shops at your destination for accessories that will provide everlasting memories.
  • Keep shoes to the same basic colours and they will go from morning till evening. I try to pack only one pair of shoes in addition to the pair I will travel in. I also pack a pair of Jandals (thongs) as these are handy when back at your accommodation.
Your target is to pack everything into a bag that fits cabin luggage regulations. A soft one is best as it can expand and is easier to squash into tight spaces. However a pullalong is also great. With just cabin luggage there will be no waiting at carousels and you will be first in line at customs. Airlines now often charge for checked bags so packing light is win win all the way.

Here's an example that will take you most places:
  • A sleeveless or short-sleeve dress for warm weather. It can be layered with the tops when its colder.
  • A skirt.
  • A warm outer layer in soft fabric that can be squashed into your handbag as the day warms up.
  • Three tops should be enough - one long sleeve one ¾ sleeve and one singlet style.
  • Long pants. Perhaps our always popular Resort Pants that are on special right now.
  • A lightweight shower-proof jacket.
  • Accessories – scarfs, jewellery, belts.
  • Two pairs of shoes and Jandals.
  • A soft quality cabin bag.
  • A tote style everyday bag.
Now for a sanity check. Do all your outfits match the places and things you will be doing ?

Happy travelling. Others will be envious at how you travel with such ease.
